Brownie Layer

Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.

Melt Butter
In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter. Remove from heat once melted.

Mix Sugars
Stir in 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 cup brown sugar until well combined.

Add Eggs and Vanilla
Add 4 large eggs and 2 tsp vanilla extract to the mixture. Stir until smooth.

Combine Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, and 0.5 tsp salt.

Mix Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.

Add Chocolate Chips
Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips into the brownie batter.

Bake Brownie Layer
Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Prepare Cookie Dough
In a large bowl, cream together 0.5 cup unsalted butter, 0.5 cup granulated sugar, and 0.5 cup brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Add Egg and Vanilla
Beat in 1 large egg and 1 tsp vanilla extract until well incorporated.

Combine Dry Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together 1.5 cups all-purpose flour, 0.5 tsp baking soda, and 0.5 tsp salt.

Mix Dry Ingredients
Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until combined.

Add Chocolate Chips
Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips into the cookie dough.

Layer Cookie Dough
Once the brownie layer is baked, remove it from the oven and spread the cookie dough evenly on top.

Bake Complete Brookie
Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the cookie layer is golden brown.

Let the brookies cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes before slicing into squares and serving.
