Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place the 1 cup of long-grain rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water for about 2-3 minutes. This removes excess starch and helps to prevent the rice from becoming gummy.

  2. 2

    Combine Ingredients in Pot

In a medium-sized pot, combine the rinsed rice, 2 cups of water, 0.5 tsp of salt, and 1 tbs of butter or olive oil. Stir gently to combine.

  3. 3

    Bring to a Boil

Place the pot over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Keep an eye on it to prevent overflow.

  4. 4

    Simmer the Rice

Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and let it simmer for about 18-20 minutes. Do not lift the lid during this time.

  5. 5

    Check for Doneness

After 18-20 minutes, check to see if all the water has been absorbed and the rice is tender. If so, remove the pot from heat. If not, cover and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

  6. 6

    Fluff the Rice

Remove the lid and let the rice sit for 5 minutes. Then, use a fork to fluff the rice gently.

  7. 7

    Serve

If desired, add herbs or lemon juice to taste and serve the rice warm as a side dish or base for your main course.
