Preparing the Beans

Rinse the Beans
Rinse the pinto beans under cold running water to remove any dirt or debris.

In a large pot, add the rinsed beans and cover them with 4 cups of water. Allow the beans to soak overnight or for at least 6 hours.

After soaking, drain the beans and return them to the pot. Add fresh water and 1 teaspoon of salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to low and simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beans are tender.
