Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prep the Cheese

Cut the white American cheese and monterey jack cheese into small cubes to help them melt evenly.

  2. 2

    Dicing Vegetables

Dice the jalapeño peppers, and set aside. If you prefer less heat, remove the seeds and membranes.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the cubed white American cheese, monterey jack cheese, whole milk, heavy cream, and sour cream.

  2. 4

    Add Spices

Once the cheese starts to melt, add the diced jalapeño peppers, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Stir continuously.

  3. 5

    Melt the Cheese

Continue to stir until all the cheese is melted and the mixture is smooth. If it appears too thick, add a little more milk or cream to reach your desired consistency.

Serving

  1. 6

    Garnish and Serve

Once the queso is smooth and creamy, remove from heat. Optionally, stir in chopped fresh cilantro, diced tomatoes, and sliced green onions for added flavor and color. Serve warm with tortilla chips.
