Method

Preparation of Carnitas

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Cut the pork shoulder into large chunks and place it in a slow cooker.

  2. 2

    Add the Marinade

In a separate bowl, mix together the orange juice, lime juice, minced garlic, cumin, oregano, salt, black pepper, and bay leaves. Pour this mixture over the pork in the slow cooker.

  3. 3

    Add Onion

Chop the onion into quarters and add it to the slow cooker.

  4. 4

    Cook the Pork

Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easy to shred.

Shredding and Serving

  1. 5

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Discard any excess fat and bay leaves.

  2. 6

    Serve the Carnitas

Serve the shredded pork in tortillas with optional sides such as salsa, guacamole, and lime wedges. Garnish with chopped cilantro.
