Method
Preparation
- 1
Cutting Tortillas
Begin by stacking the yellow corn tortillas. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the stack into triangle pieces to create chips. You can cut each tortilla into 6 or 8 triangles based on your preferred chip size.
Frying Chips
- 2
Heat Oil
In a deep frying pan or large pot, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it over medium-high heat. Use a thermometer to ensure the oil reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 3
Fry Chips
Once the oil is hot, carefully add a batch of tortilla triangles to the oil. Do not overcrowd the pan to maintain the oil temperature. Fry the chips for 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- 4
Drain and Season
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried chips from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle salt over the chips for flavor.
Flavoring (Optional)
- 5
Adding Turmeric Flavor
For turmeric-flavored chips, mix the turmeric powder with salt. Immediately after draining the chips, sprinkle the turmeric-salt mixture over them, tossing gently to coat evenly.
- 6
Adding Nacho Flavor
For nacho-flavored chips, sprinkle the nacho cheese seasoning over the warm chips right after draining. Toss to coat the chips evenly.
