Method

Meatloaf Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

    Combine Meatloaf Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, French onion soup mix, breadcrumbs, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Mix Thoroughly

Using your hands or a spoon, mix the ingredients until well combined but do not overmix.

  4. 4

    Shape the Meatloaf

Transfer the mixture to a loaf pan and shape it into a loaf.

  5. 5

    Bake the Meatloaf

Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

Topping Preparation

  1. 6

    Caramelize the Onions

While the meatloaf is baking, in a skillet over medium heat, add a little oil or butter and add the sliced onions. Cook them slowly, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.

  2. 7

    Add Toppings to Meatloaf

Once the meatloaf is done baking, remove it from the oven. Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the top of the meatloaf, then sprinkle the shredded Swiss cheese on top.

  3. 8

    Melt the Cheese

Return the meatloaf to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  4. 9

    Garnish and Serve

Remove from the oven and sprinkle fresh thyme on top before slicing and serving.
