Prepare the Yams

Peeling and Cutting
Peel the yams and cut them into 1-inch cubes.

Boiling
Place the yam cubes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for about 15 minutes or until tender. Drain and set aside.
Making the Candied Mixture

Combine Ingredients
In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture is smooth and bubbly.

Add Yams
Add the cooked yams to the pot and gently stir to coat them in the syrup. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the yams to absorb the flavors.

Assemble and Bake
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the candied yams to a baking dish, then evenly sprinkle the marshmallow-pecan topping over the yams.
