Method
Preparing the Mozzarella Sticks
- 1
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour in the first bowl, beaten eggs in the second bowl, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper in the third bowl.
- 2
Coat the Mozzarella Sticks
Take a mozzarella stick, coat it in flour, dip it into the beaten eggs, and then roll it in the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated. Repeat with all mozzarella sticks.
- 3
Freeze the Coated Sticks
Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
Frying the Mozzarella Sticks
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Ensure there's enough oil to fully submerge the mozzarella sticks.
- 5
Fry the Sticks
Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches, frying them for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve Hot
Serve the fried mozzarella sticks hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
Preparing the Marinara Sauce
- 7
- 8
Simmer the Sauce
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir well and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 9
Serve with Mozzarella Sticks
Once the sauce has thickened slightly, remove from heat and serve alongside the mozzarella sticks.
