Method

Filling Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Ground Beef

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 pound of ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

  2. 2

    Sauté Vegetables

Add 1 chopped medium onion, 2 diced medium carrots, and 2 minced garlic cloves to the skillet. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the onions are translucent.

  3. 3

    Add Peas and Liquids

Stir in 1 cup of frozen peas, 1 cup of beef broth, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes until slightly thickened.

Mashed Potatoes Preparation

  1. 4

    Boil Potatoes

In a large pot, add 2 pounds of peeled and cubed potatoes and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 5

    Mash Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add 4 tablespoons of butter, 1 cup of milk, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 6

    Assemble the Shepherd's Pie

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). In a baking dish, spread the beef filling evenly. Top it with the mashed potatoes, spreading them out with a spatula.

  2. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the mashed potatoes are golden brown on top.

  3. 8

    Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your homemade Shepherd's Pie!
