Grilled Ham

Sautéed Onions

Cheddar Cheese

Potato Buns

Method

Beef Patty

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until well combined, being careful not to overwork the meat. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into half-pound patties.

  2. 2

    Cook the Beef Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired doneness. Remove from heat and let rest.

Grilled Ham

  1. 3

    Grill the Ham

On the same grill or skillet, add the thick cut ham slices and grill for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they are heated through and have grill marks. Remove from heat.

Apple Habanero BBQ Sauce

  1. 4

    Make the BBQ Sauce

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the apple cider vinegar, minced habanero pepper, brown sugar, ketchup, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat.

Sautéed Onions

  1. 5

    Sauté the Onions

In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and sauté for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and caramelized. Remove from heat.

Assembling the Slab Burger

  1. 6

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each potato bun, place a cooked beef patty. Top with grilled ham, sautéed onions, and sliced cheddar cheese. Drizzle with apple habanero BBQ sauce. Place the top half of the bun over the stack to complete the burger.

  2. 7

    Grill the Assembled Burger

Return the assembled burgers to the grill for an additional 2-3 minutes, just until the cheddar cheese melts slightly and the buns are warmed through. Remove from grill.
