Method

Preparing the Pork

  1. 1

    Season the Pork

In a small bowl, mix together garlic powder, cumin, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Rub this mixture all over the pork shoulder.

  2. 2

    Roast the Pork

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a roasting pan and add 1 cup of water to the pan. Cover with aluminum foil and roast for about 3-4 hours, or until the pork is tender and can be easily pulled apart with a fork.

  3. 3

    Shred the Pork

Once the pork is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes. Then, shred the pork using two forks.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 4

    Prepare the Bread

Slice the Cuban rolls in half lengthwise, but do not cut all the way through. This will create a pocket to hold the fillings.

  2. 5

    Layer the Ingredients

Spread yellow mustard on the inside of both halves of each roll. On the bottom half, layer the shredded pork, followed by the smoked ham, Swiss cheese, and a generous amount of pickles.

Grilling the Sandwiches

  1. 6

    Heat the Grill or Pan

Preheat a panini press or a skillet over medium heat. If using a skillet, add a little olive oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 7

    Press and Grill

Place the assembled sandwiches in the pan or press. If using a pan, place a heavy skillet on top of the sandwiches to press them down. Grill for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

  3. 8

    Serve

Remove the sandwiches from the grill or pan, slice in half, and serve immediately while hot and crispy.
