Salad Base

Method

Preparing the Salad Base

  1. 1

    Wash and Chop Romaine

Rinse 2 cups of romaine lettuce under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat dry with a clean towel or use a salad spinner to remove excess moisture. Chop the lettuce into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 2

    Prepare Croutons

If using store-bought croutons, measure out 1 cup. If making homemade croutons, cut stale bread into cubes, toss them with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and bake at 375°F (190°C) until golden brown.

  3. 3

    Grate Parmesan

Using a grater, shred 0.5 cup of fresh Parmesan cheese. Set aside for topping the salad.

Making the Caesar Dressing

  1. 4

    Prepare the Ingredients

Gather all dressing ingredients: 1 garlic clove, 2 anchovy fillets, 1 tsp Dijon mustard, 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 2 tbs lemon juice, 0.5 cup olive oil, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In a bowl or food processor, combine the garlic clove (minced), anchovy fillets, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon juice. Blend until smooth.

  3. 6

    Emulsify the Dressing

While blending, slowly drizzle in the olive oil until the mixture is well combined and emulsified. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Assembling the Salad

  1. 7

    Combine Salad and Dressing

In a large salad bowl, combine the chopped romaine lettuce and the Caesar dressing. Toss well to ensure the lettuce is evenly coated with the dressing.

  2. 8

    Add Croutons and Parmesan

Sprinkle the croutons and grated Parmesan cheese over the salad. Toss gently to combine without crushing the croutons.

  3. 9

    Serve

Transfer the Caesar salad to serving plates or bowls. Enjoy immediately for the best texture.
