Instructions for Fish & Chips
- 1
Prepare the Fries
Peel and cut the potatoes into thick strips. Rinse them in cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add the beer, whisking until smooth and free of lumps.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Fry the Potatoes
Drain the soaked potatoes and pat them dry. Fry them in batches for about 5-6 minutes or until they are golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Batter and Fry the Cod
Dip each cod fillet into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered fish in the hot oil and fry for 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve the crispy fish with the fries and a side of tartar sauce for dipping.
