Burger Preparation
Form the Patties
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently form them into balls. Do not overwork the meat.
Cook the Onions
Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in the skillet. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Cook the Patties
Add the remaining tablespoon of butter to the skillet. Place the beef balls in the skillet and smash them down with a spatula to form patties. Season with salt and black pepper. Cook for about 3-4 minutes.
Add Cheese
Flip the patties and place a slice of American cheese on each. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.
Toast the Buns
While the cheese is melting, cut the brioche buns in half and toast them in the skillet until golden brown.
Assemble the Burgers
Place the cooked patties on the bottom half of each bun. Top with caramelized onions, then cover with the top half of the bun.
Serve
Serve the burgers immediately with your favorite sides.
