Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

Fill a large pot with water and add 1 tablespoon of salt. Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a little pasta water if needed.

Making Meat Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

  2. 5

    Add Garlic

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.

  3. 6

    Brown the Meat

Add the ground beef to the pan and cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until browned, about 8-10 minutes.

  4. 7

    Deglaze with Wine

Pour in the red wine and let it simmer for about 2-3 minutes, allowing the alcohol to evaporate.

  5. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a gentle boil.

  6. 9

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

Combining and Serving

  1. 10

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked spaghetti to the meat sauce and toss well to combine. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.

  2. 11

    Serve

Serve hot in bowls, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
