Sauce Base

Method

Prepare the Sauce Base

  1. 1

    Heat the Olive Oil

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.

  2. 2

    Sauté the Onion

Add the finely chopped onion to the pan and sauté for about 5 minutes, until the onion is translucent.

  3. 3

    Add the Garlic

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.

  4. 4

    Add the Tomatoes

Pour in the canned whole tomatoes, and crush them gently with a spoon to break them up.

Season the Sauce

  1. 5

    Add the Herbs and Spices

Stir in the dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  2. 6

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and reduce the heat to low. Let it cook uncovered for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.

Finishing Touch

  1. 7

    Add Parmesan Cheese

Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and fully incorporated.

  2. 8

    Garnish and Serve

Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Garnish with freshly chopped basil and serve warm.
