Bread Pudding
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Bread
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Tear the day-old bread into bite-sized pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
- 2
Make the Custard
In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
- 3
Combine and Bake
Pour the custard mixture over the bread pieces, pressing down gently to ensure all the bread is soaked. Dot with butter. Bake for about 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 4
Prepare the Bourbon Sauce
In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup of butter, 1/2 cup of heavy cream, and 1/4 cup of bourbon. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce is smooth.
- 5
Serve
Let the bread pudding cool slightly, then cut into squares. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzle with bourbon sauce.
