Preparing the Catfish

Marinate the Catfish
In a large bowl, pour the buttermilk over the catfish fillets. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to marinate.

In a separate bowl, mix together cornmeal, flour, cayenne pepper, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

Remove the marinated catfish from the refrigerator. Dredge each fillet in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring they are fully coated.

In a deep frying pan or cast iron skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Fry the coated catfish fillets in batches for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Shred the cabbage and grate the carrot. In a large bowl, combine them.
