Cake Batter
For Greasing
Method
Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 2
Prepare Ramekins
Grease four ramekins with 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter and dust with cocoa powder, ensuring the sides are well coated. This will help the cakes release easily once baked.
Making the Cake Batter
- 3
Melt Butter and Chocolate
In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter and 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips together, stirring continuously until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- 4
Mix Sugar and Eggs
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 1 cup of granulated sugar, 2 large eggs, and 2 large egg yolks until well blended and slightly thickened.
- 5
Combine Mixtures
Slowly pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to prevent the eggs from cooking. Add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour, and a pinch of salt. Mix until just combined.
Baking
- 6
Fill Ramekins
Evenly distribute the batter into the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.
- 7
Bake
Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is soft.
- 8
Cool Slightly
Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the ramekins for 1 minute. Then, run a knife around the edges to loosen and carefully invert onto serving plates.
Serving
- 9
Serve Warm
Serve immediately while warm, optionally dusting with powdered sugar or serving with vanilla ice cream.
