Calamari Preparation

Prepare Calamari
Start by cleaning the calamari. Rinse under cold water, remove the insides, and slice into rings.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Stir to mix well.

Heat Oil
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Coat Calamari
Dip each calamari ring first into the wet mixture and then into the dry mixture, ensuring it is fully coated.

Fry Calamari
Fry the calamari in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

Combine Ingredients
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and add the oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.

Simmer Sauce
Simmer the sauce on low heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Once thickened, remove from heat and set aside until serving.
