Marinara Sauce

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare Calamari

Start by cleaning the calamari. Rinse under cold water, remove the insides, and slice into rings.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Stir to mix well.

  3. 3

    Prepare Wet Mixture

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined.

  4. 4

    Heat Oil

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Coat Calamari

Dip each calamari ring first into the wet mixture and then into the dry mixture, ensuring it is fully coated.

  6. 6

    Fry Calamari

Fry the calamari in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 7

    Heat Olive Oil

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 8

    Sauté Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the pan and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  3. 9

    Combine Ingredients

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and add the oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.

  4. 10

    Simmer Sauce

Simmer the sauce on low heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. 11

    Finish Sauce

Once thickened, remove from heat and set aside until serving.
