Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tuna

Pat the Ahi tuna steaks dry with paper towels. This helps to ensure a good sear.

  2. 2

    Season the Tuna

Coarsely grind the black peppercorns using a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder. Sprinkle the ground black pepper and sea salt evenly over both sides of the tuna steaks, pressing it into the fish.

  3. 3

    Heat the Pan

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until it's shimmering but not smoking.

  4. 4

    Sear the Tuna

Carefully place the seasoned tuna steaks in the hot skillet. Sear for about 1-2 minutes on each side for rare doneness or longer if you prefer it more cooked. The outside should be browned while the inside remains pink.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Sauce

While the tuna is cooking, mix the soy sauce and lemon juice in a small bowl. This will serve as a dipping sauce.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove the tuna from the skillet and let it rest for a minute. Slice the steaks into thin strips and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve with the soy sauce mixture on the side for dipping.
