Pizza Base and Toppings
Method
Preparation and Baking
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy. Add the flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 3
Prepare the Pizza
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a round shape on a floured surface. Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet.
- 4
Add Toppings
Spread tomato sauce evenly over the dough. Tear the mozzarella cheese into pieces and distribute them on top of the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and drizzle with extra virgin olive oil.
- 5
Bake the Pizza
Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly. Remove from the oven.
- 6
Garnish and Serve
Top the pizza with fresh basil leaves before slicing. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Margherita pizza.
