Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Topping and Baking

  1. 5

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.

  2. 6

    Prepare Sauce

In a small saucepan, heat the tomato sauce over medium heat. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

  3. 7

    Roll Out Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle.

  4. 8

    Assemble Pizza

Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza peel or a baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Tear the mozzarella cheese into pieces and distribute evenly over the sauce. Scatter fresh basil leaves on top.

  5. 9

    Bake Pizza

Drizzle olive oil over the pizza and bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.

  6. 10

    Serve

Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve hot. Enjoy your Margherita pizza!
