Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix dry ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine wet ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well until combined.

  4. 4

    Combine wet and dry ingredients

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.

  5. 5

    Bake the cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare the frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Add the cocoa powder and mix until combined.

  2. 8

    Add sugar and milk

Gradually add the powdered sugar and milk, alternating between them, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  3. 9

    Frost the cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Serving Suggestion

  1. 10

    Serve with ice cream

Slice the chocolate cake and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
