Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Pat the ribeye steak dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Rub both sides of the steak with olive oil, then season generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Allow the steak to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking.

Cooking

  1. 2

    Preheat the Pan

Heat a heavy skillet (preferably cast iron) over high heat until it's very hot, about 5 minutes. If using a grill, preheat to high.

  2. 3

    Cook the Steak

Once the pan is hot, carefully place the seasoned ribeye steak in the skillet. Cook for 4-5 minutes without moving it to create a nice sear. Flip the steak and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer a different doneness.

  3. 4

    Add Butter and Rosemary (Optional)

If desired, add a tablespoon of butter and a sprig of fresh rosemary to the pan during the last minute of cooking. Baste the steak with the melted butter for added flavor.

Resting

  1. 5

    Let the Steak Rest

Remove the steak from the skillet and transfer it to a cutting board. Tent it with foil and let it rest for 5-10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.

Serving

  1. 6

    Slice and Serve

After resting, slice the ribeye against the grain and serve immediately. Enjoy your perfectly cooked ribeye steak!
