Method

Preparing the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prep the Cheese

Cut the mozzarella cheese sticks in half if desired, creating shorter sticks. This can make them easier to handle.

  2. 2

    Set Up the Breading Station

In three shallow bowls, place the flour in the first bowl, beaten eggs in the second bowl, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in the third bowl.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Coat each mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off the excess. Dip it into the beaten eggs, then roll it in the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated. Repeat for all mozzarella sticks.

  4. 4

    Chill the Sticks

Place the breaded cheese sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes. This helps them hold their shape while frying.

Frying the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small piece of bread into it; if it sizzles, it's ready.

  2. 6

    Fry the Cheese Sticks

Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.

  3. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried mozzarella sticks from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm.

Making the Marinara Sauce

  1. 8

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 9

    Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.

  3. 10

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 11

    Serve with Mozzarella Sticks

Once the marinara sauce is ready, serve it warm alongside the fried mozzarella sticks for dipping.
