Calamari

Method

Fried Calamari

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Clean the calamari by removing the head, guts, and skin. Cut the body into rings about 1/2 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or frying pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

  5. 5

    Bread the Calamari

Dip each calamari ring first into the egg mixture, then into the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.

  6. 6

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully place the breaded calamari rings into the hot oil. Fry in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 7

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat and add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 8

    Add the Tomatoes and Spices

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  3. 9

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
