Potato Preparation

Optional Seasoning

Method

Potato Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Begin by thoroughly washing the Russet potatoes under cold running water to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cut into Fries

Cut the peeled potatoes into evenly sized strips, about 1/4 inch thick, to ensure even cooking.

  3. 3

    Soak in Water

Place the cut fries into a bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and allows for crispier fries.

Frying Process

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 5

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of fries to the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Immediately sprinkle with salt and any optional seasonings like garlic powder, paprika, or black pepper.
