Fried Pickles

Method

Fried Pickles

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickles

Slice the dill pickles into 1/4-inch thick slices and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Pour the buttermilk into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. The batter should be thick and able to coat the pickles.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Pickles

Dip each pickle slice into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered pickles in the hot oil, frying them in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried pickles from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain. Serve hot.

Chipotle Ranch

  1. 7

    Prepare the Chipotle Ranch

In a small bowl, combine the ranch dressing, chipotle in adobo sauce, lime juice, garlic powder, and salt. Mix until well blended.

  2. 8

    Adjust Seasoning

Taste the chipotle ranch and adjust the salt if necessary. You can add more chipotle for a spicier flavor if desired.

  3. 9

    Serve

Serve the chipotle ranch alongside the fried pickles for dipping.
