Preparation

1. Prepare the Vanilla Beans

Split the vanilla beans lengthwise using a sharp knife, exposing the tiny seeds inside. Scrape the seeds out into a small bowl and set aside.

2. Make Vanilla Syrup

In a medium saucepan, combine the water and granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Bring to a gentle boil and then remove from heat.

3. Combine Ingredients

Add the scraped vanilla seeds and the split beans to the saucepan with the syrup. Stir well to combine.

4. Add Alcohol

Once the syrup has cooled slightly, add the vodka or bourbon and a pinch of salt to the mixture. Stir to combine.

5. Bottle the Mixture

Pour the vanilla mixture into a clean glass bottle or jar, including the split vanilla beans. Seal tightly.

Storage

6. Let it Infuse

Store the bottle in a cool, dark place. Let it sit for at least 4 weeks, shaking gently every week to help the infusion process.
