Main Ingredients
Taffy Flavoring (optional)
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pan
Grease a baking pan (about 9x9 inches) with butter or line it with parchment paper for easy removal of the taffy later.
Cooking
- 2
- 3
Heat the Mixture
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Do not stir once it starts boiling. Let it boil until it reaches the hard-ball stage (about 250°F or 121°C), which usually takes around 10-15 minutes.
- 4
Add Butter and Flavoring
Once the mixture reaches the hard-ball stage, remove it from heat. Stir in the butter, vanilla extract, and food coloring (if using), and any additional fruit flavoring extract you desire.
- 5
Cool the Mixture
Let the mixture cool for a few minutes until it’s safe to handle but still warm. Then, pour it onto the prepared baking pan.
Stretching the Taffy
- 6
Knead the Taffy
Once the taffy is cool enough to handle, grease your hands with a little butter and start pulling and stretching the taffy. Knead it for about 10-15 minutes until it becomes smooth and shiny.
- 7
Shape the Taffy
Once the taffy is well-kneaded, shape it into long ropes or cut it into bite-sized pieces. You can also wrap individual pieces in wax paper for storage.
