Method

Meat Sauce Preparation

  1. 1

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add Meat

Add ground beef and ground pork to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Incorporate Garlic and Seasoning

Stir in minced garlic, salt, black pepper, oregano, and basil. Cook for another minute until fragrant.

  4. 4

    Add Tomatoes and Wine

Pour in canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Stir well and bring to a simmer.

  5. 5

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Béchamel Sauce Preparation

  1. 6

    Make the Roux

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.

  2. 7

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring no lumps form. Continue to whisk until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 8

    Season the Sauce

Stir in nutmeg and salt. Remove from heat and set aside.

Lasagna Assembly

  1. 9

    Cook the Noodles

In a large pot of salted water, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 10

    Layer the Lasagna

In a baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place a layer of noodles on top, followed by a layer of béchamel sauce and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with béchamel and mozzarella cheese on top.

  3. 11

    Bake the Lasagna

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is bubbly and golden.

  4. 12

    Rest and Serve

Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
