Meatballs

Method

Meatball Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, smoked Gouda cheese, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, dried oregano, and chopped parsley. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs. Make sure to tuck some cheese inside each meatball for a gooey center.

Cooking Meatballs

  1. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through and browned.

Tomato Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried basil, salt, sugar, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.

Simmer Sauce

  1. 6

    Cook the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. After 15 minutes, stir in the fresh basil.

Combine and Serve

  1. 7

    Serve Meatballs with Sauce

Once the meatballs are cooked, add them to the simmering tomato sauce. Allow them to cook in the sauce for an additional 5 minutes. Serve hot, garnished with extra parsley or basil if desired.
