Marinara Sauce Ingredients

Method

Prepare the Meatballs

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, chopped parsley, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  2. 2

    Shape Meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs approximately 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Cook Meatballs

In a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches (do not overcrowd the pan) and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Prepare the Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Onions and Garlic

In the same skillet, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Once hot, add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 4-5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and stir in the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and let cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 6

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Add the browned meatballs back into the skillet with the marinara sauce. Cover and let simmer for an additional 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  4. 7

    Serve

Serve the meatballs and marinara sauce over pasta or with crusty bread. Garnish with fresh chopped basil if desired.
