Method

Fondue Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese Mixture

Grate the Gruyère and Emmental cheese and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Pot

Cut the garlic clove in half and rub the inside of a fondue pot or heavy saucepan with the cut side of the garlic.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In the fondue pot, pour the dry white wine and heat it over medium heat until it starts to simmer.

  4. 4

    Add Cheese

Gradually add the grated cheese to the simmering wine, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until melted and smooth.

  5. 5

    Thicken the Mixture

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with lemon juice to create a slurry. Add this to the cheese mixture and stir well to thicken.

  6. 6

    Season the Fondue

Add a pinch of nutmeg and black pepper to taste. Stir well to combine.

Serving the Fondue

  1. 7

    Prepare the Dippers

Cut the sourdough bread into cubes, slice the apples into wedges, and wash the strawberries.

  2. 8

    Serve

Transfer the melted cheese mixture to a fondue pot with a candle or burner underneath to keep warm. Arrange the dippers on a platter alongside the fondue pot.

  3. 9

    Enjoy

Use fondue forks or skewers to dip the bread, apple wedges, and strawberries into the melted cheese. Enjoy immediately!
