Method

Preparing the Omelet

  1. 1

    Whisk the Eggs

In a medium bowl, crack the 3 eggs and add salt and black pepper. Whisk together until well combined and slightly frothy.

  2. 2

    Heat the Pan

In a non-stick skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat until it begins to foam, ensuring it coats the bottom of the pan.

  3. 3

    Cook the Eggs

Pour the whisked eggs into the skillet, tilting the pan slightly to spread the eggs evenly. Let cook undisturbed for about 1-2 minutes until the edges begin to set.

  4. 4

    Add Fillings (Optional)

If you are using fillings, sprinkle the shredded cheese, chopped vegetables, and cooked ham or bacon over one half of the omelet.

  5. 5

    Fold the Omelet

Using a spatula, carefully fold the other half of the omelet over the fillings and let cook for another minute or until the cheese is melted and the omelet is cooked through.

  6. 6

    Serve

Slide the omelet onto a plate and serve hot.

Preparing the Sides

  1. 7

    Prepare Home Fries

If serving home fries, chop potatoes into small cubes and boil until tender, then sauté in a skillet with oil until golden brown and crispy.

  2. 8

    Prepare Stone Ground Grits

Cook stone ground grits according to package instructions, usually by simmering in water or milk until thickened.

  3. 9

    Toast Bread

Toast whole grain bread slices until golden brown.

  4. 10

    Bake Biscuit

If using a buttermilk biscuit, bake according to package instructions or until golden brown.
