Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Add Tea and Spices

Once the water is boiling, add 2 tablespoons of black tea leaves or 2 tea bags, along with the cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, ginger, and black peppercorns.

  3. 3

    Simmer

Reduce heat and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse.

Final Steps

  1. 4

    Add Milk and Sweetener

After 10 minutes, add 1 cup of milk and 2 tablespoons of sugar or honey to the saucepan.

  2. 5

    Heat Through

Increase the heat and bring the mixture back to a gentle boil. Remove from heat once it’s hot but not boiling.

  3. 6

    Strain and Serve

Strain the chai tea into cups using a fine mesh strainer to remove the spices and tea leaves. Serve hot or let it cool for iced chai.
