Method
Preparation
- 1
Soak the Chickpeas (if using dried)
If using dried chickpeas, soak them in water overnight. Drain and rinse before using. If using canned chickpeas, simply drain and rinse.
- 2
- 3
Add Flour
Add the flour to the mixture and pulse a few more times until incorporated. The mixture should hold together when formed into a ball.
- 4
Chill Mixture
Transfer the mixture to a bowl, cover, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help the flavors meld and make it easier to shape.
Cooking
- 5
Heat Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Form the Falafel Balls
Using your hands or a scoop, form the falafel mixture into balls or patties (about 1.5 inches in diameter).
- 7
Fry the Falafel
Carefully place the falafel balls in the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- 8
Drain Excess Oil
Remove the falafel from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serving
- 9
Serve with Accompaniments
Serve the falafel warm, with tahini, lemon wedges, and pita bread on the side.
