Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Spaghetti

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Garlic

While the spaghetti is cooking, peel and finely chop the garlic cloves.

  3. 3

    Halve the Cherry Tomatoes

Rinse the cherry tomatoes under cold water and cut them in half.

  4. 4

    Prep the Basil

Wash the basil leaves and pat them dry. Tear them into smaller pieces.

Cooking

  1. 5

    Sauté the Garlic

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 6

    Add the Tomatoes

Add the halved cherry tomatoes to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften.

  3. 7

    Combine with Spaghetti

Once the spaghetti is cooked, reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the spaghetti. Add it directly to the skillet with the tomatoes and garlic.

  4. 8

    Create the Sauce

Toss the spaghetti in the skillet, adding reserved pasta water as needed to help create a sauce. Add salt, black pepper, and optional red pepper flakes if using.

  5. 9

    Finish with Basil and Cheese

Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the fresh basil. Grate the Parmesan cheese over the pasta and toss to combine.

Serving

  1. 10

    Plate the Dish

Serve the spaghetti hot, garnished with extra basil leaves and Parmesan cheese if desired. Add lemon zest for an extra burst of flavor if using.
