Hummus

Pita Bread

Method

Preparing the Hummus

  1. 1

    Cook the Garbanzo Beans (Optional)

If using dried garbanzo beans, soak them overnight in water. Drain and rinse, then boil in fresh water for about 1-2 hours until soft. Drain and let cool.

  2. 2

    Combine Ingredients

In a food processor, add the cooked or canned garbanzo beans, garlic cloves, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, cumin, and water.

  3. 3

    Blend

Process the mixture on high speed until smooth. If the hummus is too thick, you can add more water or olive oil, a tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached.

  4. 4

    Taste and Adjust

Taste the hummus and adjust seasoning as necessary. You may want to add more salt, lemon juice, or garlic according to your preferences.

  5. 5

    Serve

Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl, drizzle with a little olive oil, and garnish with paprika or chopped parsley if desired.

Preparing the Pita Bread

  1. 6

    Warm the Pita Bread

If desired, warm the pita bread in a toaster or on a skillet over low heat for a few minutes until soft and pliable.

  2. 7

    Cut and Serve

Cut the warm pita bread into wedges and serve alongside the hummus.
