Method

Preparing the Meat

  1. 1

    Mix the Meat Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb and ground beef. Add minced garlic, finely chopped onion, dried oregano, ground cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.

  2. 2

    Shape the Meat

Form the meat mixture into oval patties, about 1/2 inch thick. Make sure they hold together well.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked through. Once cooked, remove from heat and let rest.

Making the Tzatziki Sauce

  1. 4

    Prepare the Cucumber

Grate the cucumber and squeeze out excess moisture using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.

  2. 5

    Mix the Sauce

In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, chopped fresh dill, lemon juice, and salt. Stir well until all ingredients are mixed thoroughly.

Serving the Gyro Plate

  1. 6

    Prepare the Plate

Warm the pita bread slightly in a dry skillet or microwave. On each plate, place a few pieces of the cooked patties, add shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, and thinly sliced red onion.

  2. 7

    Add the Tzatziki

Drizzle or dollop the tzatziki sauce over the gyro meat and vegetables, and serve immediately.
