Method
Marinating the Chicken
- 1
Prepare the Marinade
In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- 2
Marinate the Chicken
Place the chicken breasts in a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over the chicken. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for maximum flavor.
Grilling the Chicken
- 3
Preheat the Grill
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- 4
Grill the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the marinade and discard the marinade. Grill the chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side or until the chicken is fully cooked and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
- 5
Let it Rest
Once grilled, remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing it into strips.
Assembling the Gyros
- 6
Prepare the Pita
Warm the pita breads on the grill for about 1 minute on each side until soft and pliable.
- 7
Assemble the Gyros
On each pita, layer the shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced red onions, grilled chicken strips, a generous dollop of tzatziki sauce, and sprinkle crumbled feta cheese on top.
- 8
Serve
Fold the pita in half to encase the fillings and serve immediately. Enjoy your Great Greek Gyro!
