Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the russet potatoes and cut them into equal-sized chunks (about 1-2 inches).

  2. 2

    Prepare Garlic

Mince the garlic cloves finely and set aside.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Boil Potatoes

In a large pot, add the cut potatoes and cover them with cold water. Add 1 tablespoon of salt. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium heat and simmer until potatoes are tender (about 15-20 minutes).

  2. 4

    Cook Garlic

In a small saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  3. 5

    Drain Potatoes

Once the potatoes are tender, drain them in a colander and return them to the pot.

Mashing

  1. 6

    Mash Potatoes

Using a potato masher or fork, mash the drained potatoes until smooth.

  2. 7

    Combine Ingredients

Add the cooked garlic and butter mixture to the mashed potatoes. Then, stir in the milk and sour cream until fully combined and creamy.

  3. 8

    Season

Add black pepper to taste. If using, stir in the chopped chives for extra flavor.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve

Transfer the garlic mashed potatoes to a serving bowl and garnish with additional chives if desired. Enjoy!
