Method

Preparation of Marinade

  1. 1

    Make the Marinade

In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, lime juice, honey, black pepper, and red pepper flakes until well combined. This will be the marinade for the Ahi tuna.

Marinating the Ahi

  1. 2

    Marinate the Tuna

Place the Ahi tuna steaks in a shallow dish or zip-lock bag and pour the marinade over them. Ensure the tuna is evenly coated. Cover the dish or seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour to allow the flavors to penetrate.

Grilling or Sautéing

  1. 3

    Preheat and Prepare

If grilling, preheat the grill to medium-high heat. If sautéing, heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a small amount of oil.

  2. 4

    Cook the Ahi

Remove the Ahi tuna from the marinade, allowing any excess marinade to drip off. Grill the steaks for about 2-3 minutes on each side for a medium-rare finish, or sauté in the skillet for about 2-3 minutes per side. Adjust cooking time based on your preferred doneness.

Serving

  1. 5

    Plate and Garnish

Transfer the cooked Ahi tuna steaks to a serving plate. If desired, sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for garnish before serving.
