Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and lightly dust with flour, tapping out the excess.

  2. 2

    Melt the Chocolate and Butter

In a medium saucepan, combine the bittersweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Mix the Sugar and Eggs

In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, large eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla extract until well combined and pale in color.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Stir the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture until fully combined. Sift the all-purpose flour and salt over the mixture and gently fold until just combined.

  5. 5

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  6. 6

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is soft.

  7. 7

    Cool and Serve

Let the cakes cool in the ramekins for 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate and gently lift off. Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately with vanilla ice cream.
