Baking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Mix well. Add the sourdough starter and water, and mix until a rough dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  3. 3

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

  4. 4

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Shape it into a round or oval loaf.

  5. 5

    Second Rise

Place the shaped dough on a floured baking sheet or in a proofing basket. Cover it with a damp cloth and let it rise for another 30-60 minutes.

  6. 6

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) about 30 minutes before baking.

  7. 7

    Bake the Bread

Once the dough has risen, make a few slashes on top with a sharp knife. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  8. 8

    Cool and Serve

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing. Enjoy your homemade sourdough bread!
