Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pork
Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut it into 4 equal pieces for even cooking.
- 2
Mix the Rub
In a bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.
- 3
Rub the Pork
Generously rub the spice mix all over the pork pieces, ensuring they are well coated.
Cooking
- 4
Slow Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork in a slow cooker. Add apple cider vinegar and cover. Cook on low for 8-10 hours, until the pork is tender and easily shredded.
- 5
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker.
- 6
Add BBQ Sauce
Pour the BBQ sauce over the shredded pork in the slow cooker. Stir to combine and let it cook for an additional 30 minutes on low.
Serving
- 7
Prepare the Buns
Toast the hamburger buns lightly on a skillet or in the oven if desired.
- 8
Assemble the Sandwich
Spoon the pulled pork generously onto the bottom half of each bun. Add coleslaw and pickles if using. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
