Method

Preparation of Onions

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings carefully and set aside.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, ground black pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk until well blended.

  2. 3

    Add Water

Gradually add cold water to the dry mixture while stirring continuously until you achieve a smooth batter consistency. The batter should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or a pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Dip and Fry

Take each onion ring, dip it into the batter until fully coated, and carefully place it into the hot oil. Fry in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.

  3. 6

    Cook Until Golden

Fry the onion rings for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil.

  4. 7

    Drain Excess Oil

Place the fried onion rings on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Serve the onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch, ketchup, or honey mustard.
