Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold running water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a clean towel. Cut each potato into evenly sized strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This prevents splattering when frying.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried potato strips to the hot oil, being cautious of splattering. Fry them in batches for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and paprika to taste.

  5. 7

    Serve

Serve the fries hot, either plain or with your choice of dipping sauces.
